International Museum Dance Off 2016

In my last update I had some trouble remembering what I’ve been up to over the past 12 months. It’s been a very busy time. It’s kinda funny then that I had forgotten the moment that perhaps grabbed most peoples attention! In March 2016 my colleagues and I at Museums Victoria entered into the International Museum Dance-Off. I had not really intended to take part, other than in a small choreographed scene with my Public Programs friends, which can be seen early in the video. However, another scene being filmed in our Milarri Garden grabbed my attention as I was walking by and I started goofing around off camera. In the end, the girls decided I couldn’t get away with being silly and not being filmed, so they pulled me into the shoot.

We had a lot of fun, we sent our entry in, it featured on local and international TV news and hey whaddyyaknow we won! Here’s the end product:

It was a weird thing.. for the next few months people kept recognizing me as “the dancing guy with the purple pants.” Online it went to a whole other insane level, where googling myself for a laugh turned up comments like:

Purple pants man 4 lyf“, “Who is the hipster in the purple pants?”, “Is he on tinder?” and my absolute favourite: “The guy in the purple pants is awesome. Although he looks like he read about the concept of ‘dancing’ in a science textbook and has been researching it for years. Love the enthusiasm!

I know I could take that last one as an insult, but I laughed my arse off when I read that.
